Design and fabrication of an acoustic leaky-wave antenna for underwater applications

Project publication · Forum Acusticum / EuroNoise 2025

Summary

The conference paper presents the design, fabrication and experimental characterization of an acoustic leaky-wave antenna for underwater applications. The structure uses low-cost materials and a single transducer to steer the acoustic beam according to the operating frequency.

Main contribution

The work combines finite-element simulation, material selection and experimental validation to verify that the antenna can scan the acoustic beam from backward to forward directions. This capability opens the way to compact solutions for localization, SONAR and underwater acoustic communications.

Link with BoND1

BoND1 addresses non-cellular connectivity and IoT scenarios where propagation, efficiency and scalability shape network design. This conference paper adds a complementary contribution from the acoustic domain: spatial link control, low-cost prototyping and experimental validation of a technology useful for communications and sensing in difficult environments.
